These were recorded walking in Cabin John, Maryland, along a paved trail nestled between a busy road and a strange nature space. Here, I create digital collages illustrating liminality of this between-place, and create a fictitious gateway to Hell. The original intent of this project was to explore a dissonance in contemporary Western culture, in that there exists a vastly-understood and agreed-upon belief that Hell occupies a specific space, despite the common knowledge that physically digging below the Earth's crust would not deliver anyone to its gates. The scenes in this series are rooted in blunt, associative imagery to represent visions of a portal to the underworld, as inspired by the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. Where would one look to find such a doorway where two realms intersect?
